Song: My Life
In the quiet of the night, Dan sat on the edge of his bed, clutching a photo of his family, once whole, now scattered like ashes in the wind. His hands trembled, heart heavy with the weight of choices he could never undo. His father’s words echoed in his mind, "a man is only as good as his word".
A message comes, beeps his phone. "You cannot leave me like this."
He stares at the screen, has no intention to open it.
The following second, his phone rings. There is "Nami" on the screen.
He takes it and without opens it with "hello", a female voice, half screaming, full of fear and anger, fires him continuously.
He ruined it when he got close with his ex after she asked for helps. That text was the beginning of the disaster because since then, things went to the wrong direction. When his wife knows, all become a complex situation. The emotional turmoil she experiences often cascades like a river, with each tear shed serving as a reminder of her struggles and pains she has. She often blames herself, she frequently hates him. Inevitable clashes challenge their ability to communicate and empathize with one another. Their marriage was unsavable.
Years of having an affair had cost him everything. The broken promises, the tasteless relationship with his wife, turned him to countless "I’ll make it up to you" moments, had piled up, leaving him alone in a house that no longer felt like home. Now, with his family gone, he stared at the crumbling remains of his life.
As tears welled up in his eyes, Dan whispered into the darkness, "Is this my life? Is this what it all comes down to?"
The silence was deafening.
As he sifts through the family photographs, each image tells a story of time passed. The kids, once small and innocent, are captured in moments of joy and discovery, their smiles bright and carefree. Now, as he reflects on these snapshots, he marvels at how they have grown—transitioning from playful babies to confident kids.
He wants a restart.
Undo the thing that he shouldn't do.
Or, born as someone else.
